Cody Bellinger’s first plate appearance of this game (and first PA since returning from two fractured ribs) may have ended in a fly out to right field, but that was after an impressive 12-pitch at-bat. That, alone, was a welcomed reminder of what he can do to help this team grind down opposing pitchers.
And while his second at-bat was half as long as the first (hey, that’s still another six pitches!), it ended with a ball in the basket and a run on the board. Check it out:
That homer extended Belli’s hitting streak to nine games, and he’s now homered in two straight (plus three of the last four and four of the last six!). Statcast had it at 106.6 MPH off the bat and 393 feet.
It is very good to have you back, Cody.
