Which NFL Fan Base Is the Best? By the Numbers

NFL Fan Engagement

We all have different ways of supporting our favorite teams, whether going to games or wearing merchandise. And with the rise in social media, connecting with our favorite teams and players has never been easier.

That’s why we wanted to find out which NFL teams have the most engaged fan bases. We’ve looked at social media platforms, stadium attendance rates, and Google searches to determine which NFL teams have the best fanbase.

Kansas City Chiefs have the best fans, with an engagement score of 9.03/10

We’ve looked at the engagement rates of different social media platforms, attendance rates, and Google searches to determine which NFL team has the most engaged fans.

1. Kansas City Chiefs – 9.03 engagement score

The Kansas City Chiefs won the championship of the most engaged fans, with a score of 9.03/10. The Chiefs have robust engagement across all three social media platforms and one of the highest numbers of subscribers on YouTube. The Chiefs have been incredibly successful recently, winning the AFC West Division every year since 2016. They also won Super Bowl 57, their second Lombardi Trophy in four years.

2. San Francisco 49ers – 8.22 engagement score

In second place is the San Francisco 49ers, with an engagement score of 8.22. The 49ers have good engagement across all social media platforms, particularly on Instagram, and one of the best attendance rates in 2022. However, their fans haven’t had much to celebrate on the field, having not won the Super Bowl since 1994. The team has won two division championships in the last four years and reached the Super Bowl in 2019.

3. Philadelphia Eagles – 7.58 engagement score

Our top three are the Philadelphia Eagles, with an engagement score of 7.58/10. Fans of the Eagles love their TikTok and YouTube content. However, engagement across other social media platforms isn’t relatively as high. The Eagles’ success on the field has been reasonably good as of late, winning their first and only Super Bowl in 2017, three division championships, and two conference championships.

The Cincinnati Bengals’ social media content is more engaging than any NFL team, with a score of 9.46/10

We’ve looked at the engagement rate of the official accounts of each NFL team across Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok to find out which team produces the most engaging content.

1. Cincinnati Bengals – 9.46/10 social media engagement score

The top spot, with a social media engagement score of 9.46/10, is the Cincinnati Bengals. The engagement rate across the three social media platforms is high, particularly on TikTok, where they have the highest engagement rate in the NFL. The Bengals also have the second-highest engagement rate on Twitter.

2. Kansas City Chiefs – 9.34/10 social media engagement score

In second place is the Kansas City Chiefs, with a social media engagement score of 9.34/10. The Chiefs have the best Twitter engagement rate in the league at 0.34%. They also have the third and fifth highest for Instagram and TikTok.

3. San Francisco 49ers – 8.47/10 social media engagement score

Our top three are the 49ers, with a social media engagement score of 8.47/10. The 49ers have the second-highest engagement rate for Instagram in the NFL at 4.63%. Also, the 49ers are in the top 10 for their Twitter and TikTok engagement rates, ranking sixth and seventh, respectively.

The 49ers have an attendance rate of 104.6%, the highest in the NFL

Going to games is one of the best ways to engage with your favorite sports team. That’s why we wanted to determine which sections had the best attendance rates at home games during the 2022 season.

1. San Francisco 49ers – 105% attendance rate

With an attendance rate of 105%, the San Francisco 49ers take the top spot. The 49ers play their home games at Levi’s Stadium, sponsored by clothing company Levi’s, known for its denim jeans. The attending fans were also rewarded, with the 49ers winning eight out of their nine games at home.

2. Indianapolis Colts  104% attendance rate

The Indianapolis Colts narrowly take second place with an attendance rate of 104%, just 0.5% behind the top spot. Unfortunately for the Colts’ fanbase, they lost six out of their eight games at their home stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 103% attendance rate

Completing our top three is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with an attendance rate of 103%. While playing at their home ground, Raymond James Stadium, the Buccaneers fared quite well, winning five of their nine games at home. Despite going 8-9 in the 2022 season, the Buccaneers managed to clinch the NFC South Division.

The Philadelphia Eagles have the most subscribers of any NFL team, with 371,000

There’s nothing better after an excellent win than watching the game’s highlights. And YouTube has made this more accessible than ever. It’s also a great place to see behind-the-scenes footage and get to know your favorite players better. That’s why we wanted to find out which NFL teams had the most subscribers on YouTube.

1. Philadelphia Eagles – 371,000 YouTube subscribers

The Philadelphia Eagles take the top spot with 371,000 YouTube subscribers. The Eagles’ subscribers have had plenty to enjoy, going 14-3 during the 2022 season. Unfortunately for the Eagles, there’s one game they won’t want to be watching back: a 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57.

2. Kansas City Chiefs – 344,000 YouTube subscribers

In second place is the Kansas City Chiefs, with 344,000 YouTube Subscribers. The Chiefs beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl LVII, and their victory has consumed the majority of their content. In the 2022 regular season, the Chiefs, like the Eagles, won 14 of their 17 games.

3. Dallas Cowboys – 319,000 YouTube subscribers

Completing our top three is the Dallas Cowboys, with 319,000 YouTube Subscribers. The Cowboys went 12-5 in 2022 and reached the playoffs after finishing second behind the Eagles in the NFC East.

The Dallas Cowboys are the most searched NFL team, with over 80 million worldwide searches.

We’ve looked at the number of global searches on Google in the last year to reveal the most searched NFL team.

1. Dallas Cowboys – 83 million annual Google searches

The most searched NFL team on Google is the Dallas Cowboys, with over 83 million searches last year. The Cowboys have made 35 playoff appearances, with five coming in the previous decade. However, they haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1995.

2. Buffalo Bills – 49 million annual Google searches

The Buffalo Bills took second place with just under 49 million Google searches last year. The Bills had a successful 2022 season, scoring 13-3 and winning seven of their eight home games. The Bills have also won the last three division championships.

3. Green Bay Packers – 37 million annual Google searches

With 37 million Google searches, the Green Bay Packers complete our top three. The Packers have won the NFC North division in three of the four previous seasons. Their last Super Bowl was in 2010, the fourth in their history. Unfortunately, the Packers struggled in 2022, going 8-9 and missing the playoffs.

Methodology

We used inBeat for the Instagram engagement rates.

Also, we used GetMashhor for the Twitter engagement rates.

We used Hype Auditor for the TikTok engagement rates, and the Las Vegas Raiders’ engagement rate for TikTok was unavailable.

We used the official YouTube channels of each NFL team to get the number of YouTube subscribers.

We used ESPN for the attendance rates. In some cases, the attendance rates exceed 100% due to temporary seats and standing seats which aren’t factored into the general capacity.

We used Google Keyword Planner to find the number of searches worldwide. Figures show the total number of searches between February 2022 and January 2023.

All data were collected on the 8th of March, 2023.
