Teddy Bridgewater to Detroit? Movement on the Odell Beckham Jr. Market, and Other NFL Bullets

Happy Easter to those who celebrate. I hope everyone has a beautiful day watching the kids hunt for eggs and watching baseball and The Masters with family and friends. But first, let’s talk about the backup QB market for a moment. Teddy Bridgewater headlines the list of available signal callers, and he reportedly has an offer from the Detroit Lions.

  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Bridgewater has a contract offer from the Lions but has yet to decide where he wants to play in 2023. Landing in Detroit would reunite Bridgewater with Lions HC Dan Campbell, whom he spent time with in New Orleans.
  • Bridgewater completed 49 of 79 passes for 683 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions with Miami last season. However, the Dolphins opted to go in a different direction behind Tua on their depth chart, inking Mike White to a two-year deal last month.
  • Bridgewater would join Jared Goff and Nate Sudfeld on the Lions roster in Detroit if he lands there. The veteran QB has spent time in Minnesota, New Orleans, Çarolina, Denver, and Miami during his career. Bridgewater is among the best QBs still on the market. The list includes Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Blaine Gabbert, and Joe Flacco.
  • There is some movement on the Odell Beckham Jr. front this weekend. CBS Sports Josina Anderson reported that Beckham will fly to New York for a “multi-faceted” meeting with the Jets. That meeting will include a physical for the veteran wideout, who is on the mend from an ACL injury.
  • The 30-year-old wideout will also have a “thorough discussion” with the Jets regarding his role in an offense that will presumably be led by Aaron Rodgers, eventually.
  • This tweet by OBJ this morning could be nothing. However, it could be an indication that the discussions with the Jets have been positive:
  • It appears that Kareem Hunt’s time in Cleveland is over. Terry Pluto of cleveland.com reported that the Browns believe that the free agent running back has lost speed and the Browns aren’t interested in a reunion.
  • “I kept hearing from the Browns that Hunt was “slipping” in terms of his speed. He averaged a career-low 3.8 yards per carry. Pro Football Focus ranked him 53rd out of 62 qualifying running backs.

The real verdict has been his lack of attention in free agency. PFF did project Hunt receiving a two-year, $8 million deal with $4.25 million guaranteed. At this point, he should be thankful for a one-year deal in the $4 million range.”

  • Speaking of veteran running backs still on the market, Jerick McKinnon remains a free agent. McKinnon racked up 803 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns in the regular season for the Kansas City Chiefs. On Friday, the veteran running back tweeted that “the disrespect is crazy,” likely because he is still available nearly a month into free agency.
  • McKinnon’s former team, the Chiefs, signed wide receiver Richie James to a deal:
  • So, Jason Kelce has a chip on his shoulder this season:
  • The Blackhawks gave up a touchdown to the Kraken on Saturday night in Seattle:
