The emergence of young wide receivers like Jayden Reed further bolsters the Packers’ offensive potential along with Christian Watson, Bo Melton, and Dontayvion Wicks among others.
Jordan Love capped off an uber-impressive 2023 season with 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, Interestingly enough, we saw massive improvement from Love during the season. The first half of the season he played well occasionally but had a few notably bad outings. From Week 9 on he was Pro Football Focus’ second-highest graded passer. With another offseason in LaFleur’s system and the growth of his young wideouts, the Packers and Love could be in for a massive season in 2024.

While the offense is ascending, the defense remains a question mark. Despite possessing a plethora of high draft picks on that side of the ball, the Packers finished 23rd in EPA per play last season. A change in defensive coordinators could be the catalyst for improvement. Enter Jeff Hafley, whose arrival signals a shift towards a more aggressive defensive scheme. Upgrading the safety and cornerback position is crucial for Hafley’s system to function effectively. Jaire Alexander has been a fantastic corner for years but outside of him, the secondary has been exposed multiple times including in the playoffs. Additionally, the Packers might be in the market for a running back depending on the futures of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon.

While not technically a free agent, David Bakhtiari’s future is uncertain due to injuries and a massive contract. A restructure or designated cut seems likely. Aaron Jones might be brought back on a restructured deal, while A.J. Dillon’s fate hinges on the Jones situation and the enticing running back free agent class. It seems unlikely Dillon is brought back at this point given we have Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Austin Ekeler, and other running backs all available as free agents for what will likely be a reasonable price.

With $12.7 million in cap space, the Packers could be players in free agency, particularly at safety. Names like Xavier McKinney and Micah Hyde fit the bill for Hafley’s scheme. The running back market might also attract the Packers, with established veterans like Austin Ekeler potentially available. Maybe a player like Derrick Henry is a better fit to have a dynamic punch at running back.
