There is plenty of buzz surrounding the Minnesota Vikings and whether they will make a trade to move up in the 2024 NFL Draft. Our latest Minnesota Vikings mock draft sees them doing exactly that. Take a look at who the Vikings take in the first round and details for the potential trade we believe they will make.
2024 NFL Mock Draft: Vikings Move Up to Get McCarthy
In our latest mock, we have the Vikings trading both of their first-round picks to move up to number 4 to select a quarterback.
Round 1, Pick 4: JJ McCarthy – QB (Michigan)
With JJ McCarthy’s stock continuing to rise, he might not be available at number 11 if the Vikings chose to wait. Minnesota needs a quarterback and will have to move up in the 2024 NFL Draft to get one. McCarthy has all the tools and can make every throw. Plus, he showed he can win games after going 27-1 as a starter at Michigan and helping the Wolverines win the College Football Playoff last season.
Vikings Mock Trade: No. 11 and No. 23 for No. 4
We see the Minnesota Vikings trading both of their first-round picks in number 11 and 23 to score the number 4 overall pick. They would also get a 4th rounder from the Cardinals which is pick number 108. The Vikings are one of several teams we could see trying to trade into the top five to land a franchise quarterback.
Round 1 Selections if Vikings Don’t Trade
Now, Arizona could very well hang on to the number 4 pick if they are thinking about moving on from quarterback Kyler Murray. It would be tough considering his contract situation but it would be possible. If Arizona holds, the Vikings might be stuck at number 11 and have a couple of options to go with to address defensive line or cornerback with their two first-round picks.
Round 1, Pick 11: Jer’Zhan Newton – DT (Illinois)
Jer’Zhan Newton was a monster for Illinois in 2023 and has the ability to move anywhere on the defensive line and could address depth on the interior defensive line for the Vikings if they don’t trade up for a QB. Newton is great at disrupting the run game and has explosive power that makes him a handful for any interior offensive lineman. He ranks as one of the top defensive linemen in the 2024 draft class.
Round 1, Pick 23: Terrion Arnold – CB (Alabama)
The top of the cornerback class is elite in this draft and Minnesota could take the best available cornerback at no. 23 overall if they don’t trade up. Alabama’s Terrion Arnold is long and is great in press coverage. He had 5 interceptions in 2023 and has the frame to easily compete for 50-50 balls in the NFL. Arnold would be a great addition to the Vikings’ secondary.
Minnesota Current Draft Picks
Take a look at Minnesota’s current picks. They could choose to make a trade and have the capital with two first-round picks to offer. If not, they can add two solid potential starters at either cornerback or the interior defensive line.
