Jets 2024 NFL Draft Grade: B+
There is a lot to like about OT Olu Fashanu and WR Malachi Corley. Stiggers and Key will provide depth in the secondary and have the potential to be solid starters down the road. Clearly, the Jets don’t trust the durability of their running back room including Breece Hall as they added two more to their backfield.
The team moved up in the draft to get dual-threat QB Jordan Travis from FSU who will have time to develop behind Aaron Rodgers. Odd that they moved up to get him, but it’s the fifth round so there is no need to panic over it.
Heading into the draft, the Jets needed help on the offensive line and at wide receiver. They also needed secondary depth. They addressed these with a strong class. They were able to boost the offense for Aaron Rogers early on as they are in a win-now mode with Rodgers being 40 years old.
What to Love: Fashanu, Corley Boost Offense
Olu Fashanu is looking like a potential beast on the offensive line and gives Aaron Rodgers another big guy up front to keep him healthy in 2024. He was one of the best offensive tackles in the draft with smooth footwork and great agility for any scheme.
Michael Corely adds a weapon at wide receiver to complement Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams. Corley led the nation in yards after the catch over the past two years showing off great speed that makes him an instant threat.
It’s interesting to see the team take two running backs in Allen and Davis but both players put up numbers in college and should give the Jets plenty of options if injuries arise.
CFL Cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers Has Potential
The Jets had one of the most interesting picks in the draft as they selected cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers. He is the third player in the common draft era to be drafted without attending college and he is the first CFL player with no college experience to ever be drafted.
He picked off 5 passes for the Argonauts last year in the CFL. Stiggers tracks the ball well in zone coverage and is solid against the run.
Is Jordan Travis the QB of the Future?
Jordan Travis had plenty of success at Florida State and showed he has the ability to extend plays. He made tremendous strides as a pocket passer and should be able to learn for the next few years behind Aaron Rodgers. He is coming off a serious leg injury but he will have time to get healthy as Aaron Rodgers is back in 2024.
