Happy Birthday Alan Trammell, Hall of Fame Snub and Magnum, P.I. Star

Alan Trammell put together a Hall of Fame caliber career that wasn’t quite enough for induction by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

He hit 185 home runs, drove in 1,003 RBI, scored 1,231 times, collected 2,365 hits, made six All-Star teams, won four Gold Gloves, three Silver Slugger awards, and raised the World Series trophy with the rest of the Detroit Tigers in 1984.

A sure-handed fielder, gifted hitter, and all-around stud player.

But more than that, Trammell delivered a killer guest spot on the hit television show Magnum, P.I., alongside teammate Lou Whitaker.

Check it out:

The original air date for Episode 8 of Season 4 was Dec. 1, 1983.

Magnum (played by Richard from “Friends”) is in Detroit where he’s been everywhere in town except the one place he wants to be – Tiger Stadium. While washing down the disappointment with a cold beverage, Magnum meets with two men who have been to every game of the home-stand … because they happen to be Trammell and Whitaker, who starred as Detroit’s double-play combo for 19 years.

And now that he’s finally available to attend the 10th (and final) game of the home-stand, tickets are sold out. Luckily, an unsuspecting Magnum is gifted tickets by Trammell and Whitaker as they exit the bar.

Chalk it up to another successful turn by the Tigers double play duo and another clutch performance by Alan Trammell, who turned 59 on Tuesday.
