Trolling Trubisky, Cooks Trade, Major Donation, NFL’s Big Positional Spenders, and Other Bears Bullets

When I was fresh out of college, I used to blog about my uncomfortable habits, as a Jedi mind trick of sorts, to keep myself in check. Essentially, the idea was to write about my weight or my habits that I wasn’t digging. Post it, go back, read it, hold myself accountable, and then (hopefully) change. So with that in mind …

I’ve been doing way too much stress eating lately, but my hope is that if I tell myself that I can power through this by typing it out on a computer, come back to reading it at some point later, then change my ways, I’ll be better for the entire experience. Let’s roll. (Michael: Amen, brother. It’s been tough to stem the extra drinking and snacking out of sheer boredom and anxiety during this quarantine. You got this.)

  • Leading off with a trade that made me go “hmmm…” (and not just because the Bears are scheduled to play both the Rams and Texans in 2020):
  • I suppose this is one way of replacing DeAndre Hopkins
  • In a vacuum, acquiring Brandin Cooks isn’t a bad move. But transactions aren’t made in a vacuum. They are part of a continue thread of events. To trade for Cooks, his contract, and an injury history littered with multiple known concussions for a second-round pick before a draft that is as deep as ever at receiver doesn’t line up. Cooks, 26, has already been traded three times. Worst case scenario is that this is a red flag. Best case scenario is that he is still young and can be productive if/when healthy.
  • Man … the Texans have done some weird stuff since they decided to operate without a general manager:
  • From the Rams point of view … OUCH:
  • Quarterback contracts are a trap. Dear Bears, please don’t fall into the trap.
  • Bears players love Mitch Trubisky:
  • One of the most frustrating things about the Trubisky era is that he could have this city’s fans on a string if he was just a smidge more consistent overall. Trubisky has a try-hard attitude, enviable athleticism, and his teammates like him. However, having the intangibles and the support of teammates can only go so far when performance in the most valuable thing.
  • Until Trubisky figures it out, I imagine the savagery online will continue:
  • Chicago is spending a lot of money at the tight end position where there hasn’t been much production:
  • But they are also spending at linebacker, where they are employing Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn. That’s fine. But as a reminder, my preference is to spend money on production and not to chase prior results and hoping a player turns back the clock.
  • Way to go, Bears:

  • This is a hefty increase after the team initially donated $250,000. Keep it up.
  • Allen Robinson wins the #OpenDoorChallenge:
