UPDATE: As discussed in the original post below, Seiya Suzuki got plunked late in the Cubs’ last game, and although he stayed in for the final half-inning, he thereafter went for X-rays on his hand/wrist. Because of the off-day, we had to wait until today to hear about the results.
Thankfully, per the Cubs, via Jordan Bastian, those X-rays were negative. Whew. That doesn’t mean Suzuki won’t miss ANY time – he’s sitting today, for example – but a fracture would’ve meant his season was over.

Late in tonight’s win over the Mets, Seiya Suzuki took a 94 mph fastball off of his hand/wrist from old friend Mychal Givens, and he was clearly in immediate pain. The pitch seemed to his some of his wrist-protector, too, but not enough to prevent a whole lot of discomfort.
Suzuki jumped around a bit, spent a good two or three minutes with the training staff, and ultimately took first base.
Suzuki then went out to play defense for the bottom of the 9th, so I was definitely optimistic that maybe it was just one of those things where it was really painful in the moment, but no real risk of injury.
I still hope that’s the case, but the Cubs are going to check things out to be sure:
We’ll update when more is available. Tomorrow is an off-day for the Cubs, so, at a minimum, Suzuki is going to get some time to rest no matter what. Suzuki finished the night with a hit, a walk, and the HBP. He’s been mighty hot this last month or so, and you don’t want to see that progress derailed.
