Alex Caruso Named NBA Cares Community Assist Award Winner for Month of January

The NBA honored Alex Caruso for his off-the-court work on Friday.

The Chicago Bulls point guard has been named the NBA Cares Community Assist Award winner for the month of January. Each month the league recognizes one player for their contributions to the community, and Caruso was given special recognition for his effort to help families access basic life essentials.

Per the official release, Caruso helped deliver meals to those in need and donated $10,000 to Dion’s Chicago Dream. The organization focuses on fighting food insecurity in the surrounding area, and the NBA went on to match Caruso’s donation and help 20 families become food secure for the next year.

The league also noted Caruso’s work with Mikva Challenge’s Neighborhood Leadership Initiative and Chicago Public Schools. He invited kids and their families from the former organization for a full gameday experience at the United Center, while he hosted an indoor golf party for four CPS golf teams.

“It’s special to win the Community Assist award because I’ve always been a person that said if I ever had a chance to give back, I was going to do it,” Caruso said in a statement.  “We have a lot of privilege and a lot of responsibility to hold ourselves to a high standard and help people that are in need.  That’s just the way I was raised, and I think that’s something really cool that I’m able to do now.”

According to the release, Caruso will be recognized for his community service prior to tonight’s home game against the Phoenix Suns.

Congrats to AC! It’s an honor to have him sporting a Bulls jersey!
