Chicago Cubs NLDS Game Three Lineup: Is This The Lineup That Clinches?

happy cubs old logoThe Chicago Cubs won on Saturday night, thanks in large part to three RBI from their pitchers.

Hopefully, tonight’s group contributes even more with their bats and the Cubs can send the Giants home early.

Chicago Cubs Lineup v. San Francisco Giants (Madison Bumgarner):

  1. Dexter Fowler, CF
  2. Kris Bryant, 3B
  3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B
  4. Jorge Soler, LF
  5. Ben Zobrist, RF
  6. Addison Russell, SS
  7. Javy Baez, 2B
  8. Miguel Montero, C
  9. Jake Arrieta, P

Joe Maddon indicated that tonight’s lineup would be a little bit different, and a little bit different it is. Jake Arrieta is paired with Miguel Montero, with whom he’s worked so well in the past, even though it means the Cubs have another lefty bat in there against lefty Madison Bumgarner (who has been very good in the playoffs).

To compensate, Jorge Soler draws the start in left, as many speculated, while Ben Zobrist takes over for Jason Heyward in right field. Javy Baez sticks in as the starting second baseman, and everything else falls into place per usual.

Of course … this was actually the second iteration of tonight’s lineup. Joe Maddon should have never second guessed himself:

We’ll have a full Pre-Gamin’ for you close to game time.
