Day 2 Winners, Kiran Tweets, Peanut’s Vibe, Kreutz Weighs In, and Other Bears Bullets

bears draft room

Awake and functioning by 8:30 AM is a state of being I’ve not been able to achieve in two years. Yay?

Might as well get it going with Bears Bullets.

  • The Chicago Bears had just one pick on Day 2, but made it count by snagging Yale offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie with the 75th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Yes, I realize that this team has needs along the defensive line that it could’ve addressed with that selection. But I can’t bring myself to quibble over drafting an offensive line prospect with Amegadjie’s potential — especially with as often as I’ve found myself agonizing over a lack of OL depth in the past.
  • I love that the new guy is essentially one of us:

  • This man was in the trenches with us. And we’ll be in the trenches with him. Do us proud, Kiran!
  • Shout out to Jacob Infante, whose never-ending tape work on prospects who aren’t on our radar continues to impress:
  • Kiran Amegadjie told reporters (h/t Zack Pearson) that he has already heard from Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. That guy is ready to lead. And I’m here for it.
  • I’m also here for QB1 being ridiculously online:
  • Who else has a QB willing to tweet about their GM like this? Your favorite quarterback could NEVER…
  • This is how it looked when the dust settled on Round 2:
  • The best use of a 2024 second-round pick was when the Bears sent it to Washington for defensive end Montez Sweat. But if that doesn’t count, then I like what the Eagles did to get Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean and approve of the Raiders snagging interior OL Jackson Powers-Johnson (such a Raiders pick!).
  • I hate that I like what the Packers have done to this point in the draft. Their second-round selections of linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and safety Javon Bullard were solid. What the Lions did in drafting cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. was solid, too. But if Caleb Williams becomes who we think he can be, then he will cook those defenses twice a year for the foreseeable future.
  • Two picks that made the most sense: The Chargers drafting Ladd McConkey (because of course Jim Harbaugh was going to do it!) and the Saints grabbing Kool-Aid McKinstry. As far as I’m concerned, drafting a guy named Kool-Aid is a dub.
  • So much for the 49ers trading one of their stud receivers:
  • Circling back to the Bears: Olin Kreutz told TMZ Sports that this might be the most talented offensive roster this franchise has ever put together. This is a bold stance, but he might not be wrong. Although, that group featuring Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, and Martellus Bennett is certainly up there and would be more highly regarded had they not been putting up numbers opposite one of the worst defenses in franchise history. But that is water under the bridge at this point. Onward.
  • We had a Peanut Tillman sighting last night:
  • A random draft thought: It was fun watching Bears legends like Anthony “Spice” Adams and Muhsin Muhammad announce picks for other teams. Adams, a Detroit native, got a chance to announce a pick for the San Francisco 49ers franchise that drafted him. Something similar can be said for Muhammad, a Lansing (Mich.) native and Michigan State product. People forget that Moose scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl that gave the Bears a short-lived lead in Super Bowl XLI. Sigh. If only we could’ve stopped the match at that moment.
  • I love that Cam is back on Bears Twitter:
  • The NFL is so sneaky sometimes. Sliding in news that the league will allow players to wear protective soft-shell helmet covers during games into the NFL Draft weekend news cycle is slick. We’ll dig into this more later because I feel like it’s worth more than a Bullet.
  • BLEACHER NATION ON TWITTER: Bears | Cubs | Bulls | Blackhawks

  • Ooh! A Marian Hossa documentary is coming. (BN Blackhawks)
  • Over at BN Bulls, Eli unearthed a chart that puts into perspective how bad the last decade has been for Chicago basketball.
  • The Chicago Cubs keep winning. Last night, the Cubs took down the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park as Shōta Imanaga continues his stellar start as a big-leaguer stateside:
