After taking a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to an Ian Happ two-out RBI single (dude is unstoppable right now), Jon Lester immediately gave up a two-out, three-run homer in the bottom of the first.
There was something of a “seriously? this?” quality to it.
But the pitching totally shut the Marlins down from there, the bats – with a special nod to Javy Baez, who knocked in three – battled back, ultimately taking the lead in the sixth on a two-run Baez double. It required no homers.
Good, solid, all-around win. And now the Cubs are set up with a chance to win the four-game series tomorrow, always an excellent feat, especially on the road.
