Whoa, #BNBlogathon Now Up to 38 Hours! Let’s Hang Out Tonight for a Good Cause!

We’ve reached the point in the trade season where I now hope NOTHING happens for the next two days, saving it all for the last 48 or so hours before the Trade Deadline on July 31. Not only because it’s crazy fun, but also because that’s when the BN Blogathon takes place! (Also, we’re gonna have some fun as guest bartenders tonight in Wrigleyville – please check out the details below, and stop by if you’re free!)

To recap: I offered to blog here at BN and on social media at the July 31 Trade Deadline for 24 straight hours – no breaks, no sleep, no rest – but if you fine folks donate more than $6,000 to Make-A-Wish (the cost of sponsoring a child’s wish), I’ll bump that up 10 hours to 34 straight hours. And from there, I’ll tack on another hour for every $1,000 we can raise – up to 40 hours straight. Don’t you want to see me go crazy on July 30 and 31 for 40 straight hours?

Well, you lovely people pushed it over the $6,000 mark, and now up over the $10,000 mark! That means, so far, you have locked me down for 38 STRAIGHT HOURS OF MADNESS! With every $1,000 we add from here, I’ll tack on another hour to the Blogathon, up to 40 straight delirious hours.

Donate to Make-A-Wish here! – just click on “donate to this fundraiser”. It all goes straight to Make-A-Wish in service of their mission to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

And how about this! An in-person event for the Blogathon! A reminder for those who didn’t see: Got plans tonight? How about spending it at Wrigleyville’s oldest bar? With me! Serving you drinks!

That’s right: Tonight, Thursday, July 27, as the Cubs play the White Sox on the South Side, I’ll be guest bartending with my good friend Jim at Nisei Lounge from 7pm to 9pm CT, raising tips for the Blogathon in support of Make-A-Wish!

So make a night of it: come to Nisei at 3439 N. Sheffield Ave. (just south of Wrigley Field), watch the Cubs beat up on the White Sox, and have some poorly-prepared drinks served to you by me!

Whoa: Andrew Cashner the Fifth Starter?

Thomas Diamond is a Chicago Cub

Today the Cubs claimed a player off waivers! But, he's a 26 year old former top prospect who's struggled to do much of anything outside of the operating room in the past few years. As Rotoworld says: He had been...

Max Ramirez Cleared Waivers

Inasmuch as one can be excited about back-up-back-up catchers making it through waivers so that they can struggle to find playing time at AAA, I'm pretty excited. Today, Max Ramirez cleared waivers, and the Chicago Cubs outrighted him to AAA Iowa. Ramirez will...

Screeching Tire Sound: Cubs WILL Shop Carlos Zambrano This Winter

When Bruce Levine suggested yesterday that the Chicago Cubs might look to trade ace Carlos Zambrano this winter, most pundits gave it short shrift (including yours truly). After all, without Zambrano (and likely-to-depart Rich Harden), the Cubs rotation could look...

Boom: Cubs Call Up Starlin Castro

Well, here we go. Today, according to Enrique Rojas, the Chicago Cubs will call up uber-prospect Starlin Castro. He'll likely take over the starting shortstop duties in short order, with Ryan Theriot moving over to second base. If the Cubs...

Apocalypse Now: Cashner AND Wells to DL

According multiple reports, today, the Chicago Cubs placed not only starter Andrew Cashner on the disabled list (with a strained right rotator cuff), but also starter Randy Wells. Cashner's ailment was known, but until now, I had no idea that...

Jeff Stevens to Chicago, Esmailin Caridad to DL

Mark Teahen to Chicago White Sox

Don't you hate when people do those misleading headlines? I can't freaking stand it. So I refuse, even though this was a prime opportunity, given the Chicago Cubs previous involvement in Mark Teahen rumors. I could have said: "Mark Teahen...

I Love the Bears’ Reasoning Behind Drafting Tory Taylor

Drafting punter Tory Taylor wasn't popular in some circles of Bears fans. Because, as you might expect, using a fourth-round selection on punter isn't going to be unanimously applauded. Even if that punter is Tory Taylor, the Aussie who is...

Enhanced Box Score: Brewers 3, Cubs 1 – May 3, 2024

That was fun for about seven innings. Then it was a familiar flavor of exasperating. The Cubs' bats couldn't get a clutch hit all day, the Cubs' bullpen blew a small lead, and the Cubs lost to the most annoying...
