Eddie Goldman Is Active, But Adam Shaheen and Adrian Amos Are OUT For Bears Against Lions

Chicago Bears News

Just when you were starting to see the Chicago Bears’ future come into focus, one of Mitch Trubisky’s top target is listed among the inactives.

Tight end Adam Shaheen is among the seven players listed as inactive for Saturday’s game against the Detroit Lions. Shaheen was limited in practice after playing through a chest injury suffered early in the team’s Week 14 win against the Cincinnati Bengals. Unfortunately, he wasn’t healthy enough to be medically cleared for action on Saturday.

That’s a bit of a blow for a Bears offense that put up 30+ points for the first time since 2015 and looked to be clicking with Shaheen working the middle of the field and growing into a red zone threat. Trubisky will have tight ends Dion Sims and Daniel Brown suited up for action. Sims has been an end zone target for Trubisky, while Brown is the more prolific pass catcher of the two. He just happens to be a receiver labeled as a tight end.

While Shaheen is out of the lineup, nose tackle Eddie Goldman – who was also limited in practice this week – is set to return to action. Goldman, one of the Bears’ top defensive linemen, returns after sitting out of the Bears’ win against the Bengals. Drafted by Chicago in the second round in the 2015 NFL Draft, Goldman has grown into one of the league’s better nose tackles. His presence could go a long way toward stifling Detroit’s running game.

Safety Adrian Amos is out for the third straight game. Amos suffered a hamstring injury against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12, which caused him to be sidelined for the Bears’ last two games. He is Pro Football Focus’ second-highest-rated safety, so losing him hurts the Bears’ secondary.

Joining this trio of starters on the list of inactive players are defensive lineman Rashaad Coward, defensive back Deiondre’ Hall, offensive lineman Cameron Lee, running back Taquan Mizzell, and quarterback Mark Sanchez – who has been inactive for each of the team’s 14 games.
