Mitch Trubisky’s second-year leap helped push the Chicago Bears to a 12-win season and NFC North title. And if you had him in your fantasy lineup, he probably helped your squad reach new heights, too. So what does Year 3 potentially have in store? Based on where several Bears rank on the list, more points should be on the horizon for Chicago’s football team and your fantasy lineup.
Michael Fabiano’s list of top 200 fantasy players for 2019 features six Bears, including four in the top 63. Not bad for a team that was fantasy irrelevant two years ago and has just one year under its belt playing in an offense suited for modern football.
And of course: having five playmakers around him should help Trubisky’s cause.
Tarik Cohen is the highest-ranking member of the Bears, checking in at #50 overall. Wide receiver Allen Robinson (#54) and running back Jordan Howard (#63) aren’t too far behind Cohen on the power ranking. Neither player reached the 1,000-yard milestone last season, but each had their moments. In fact, both Howard and Robinson had their best games at the end of the 2018 season. Howard was named FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week after posting a 100-yard outing on the ground (with two touchdowns!) in the regular season finale against the Vikings that eliminated them from postseason play. And Robinson was a game-changer in the Bears’ postseason loss to the Eagles in a performance that would be viewed in a better light had Cody Parkey not missed what would have been a game-winning field goal. Oye, things are going to circle back to that kick for a while aren’t they?
Tight end Trey Burton (#132) and wide receiver Anthony Miller (#150) also make the cut. Miller led all rookie wideouts with seven receiving touchdowns despite playing most of the season with an injured shoulder. Burton started the season strong, but his production fell off in the middle of the season. And yet, he still set career highs in touchdowns, catches, and receiving yards.
Trubisky checks in at No. 141 overall and 17th among quarterbacks. Not only is Trubisky roster-worthy, there’s a good chance he could be a quality starter for your team in 2019. Trubisky had seven games with two passing touchdowns, four of which came during 300-yard passing performances. And while his arm will ultimately define the season on the field, Trubisky’s legs are what will take his fantasy performance to another level. Trubisky had six games in which he added at least three points due to rushing yards, including three games with 50+ yards on the ground. If Trubisky can minimize his turnovers, he could be on the cusp of being a top-10 fantasy quarterback. Wouldn’t that be something?
