Chicago Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy is going back to school to find inspiration for his next trick play.
“It’s going to be called ‘Ass-Kickin’ Chicken’ for the Blue Hens,” Nagy explained during an interview on NFL Network. “We’re gonna rock and roll with that thing, so we’re going to get a little creative with that. I can’t tell anybody — I won’t tell anybody — up until we get to that game. Who knows what game it’s going to show up.”
The name for this particular trick play is an homage to the University of Delaware, which is Nagy’s alma mater. What an honor! And after Nagy thrilled Bears fans with “Freezer Left,” “Oompa Loompa,” “Santa’s Sleigh,” “Lollipop,” and all sorts of wacky gadgetry throughout the 2018 season, it’s hard not to get a little bit geeked up for something that’s going to be kept under wraps for quite a while.
Nagy unleashed a trick-play arsenal that brought life to an offense that had been boring for years. And in the end, all that additional gadget madness helped the Bears win 12 games and the NFC North title in 2018 (not to mention aiding in Nagy winning the NFL’s Coach of the Year award).
Successful sequels are hard to come by, but Nagy seems like the type who would still have plenty of tricks up his sleeve for the 2019 season — even after showing off a high level of creativity as a first-year head coach.
