Trey Burton’s second year in Chicago will end with a trip to IR.
Here’s the news:
#Bears roster moves:
We have placed TE Trey Burton on Injured Reserve (IR) and have promoted LB James Vaughters from the practice squad to the active roster.— Chicago Bears (@BearsPR) November 16, 2019
The Bears announced Burton placed on injured reserve on Saturday, ending his season. Burton suffered a calf injury late in last week’s win against the Lions and was a non-participant in practice all week due to the injury. This season has been a mess for Burton, who suffered a groin injury the week before the season opener and recently admitted he wasn’t playing at 100 percent (despite missing just the opener). Burton finishes the year with just 14 catches and 84 receiving yards in eight games.
In a corresponding move, the Bears have activated outside linebacker James Vaughters. The activation of Vaughters is a sign the team will roll with Ben Braunecker, J.P. Holtz, and Bradley Sowell at tight end. And since Kerrith Whyte Jr. wasn’t added from the practice squad, it could be viewed as a sign that running back David Montgomery will be able to give it a go on Sunday Night Football against the Rams.
