Jaylon Johnson has some big some big shoes to fill as he dons the No. 33 jersey. Thankfully, the rookie from Utah has plenty of motivation: “I didn’t think there were six corners that should’ve been taken ahead of me,” Johnson told Jeff Joniak and Lauren Screeden during his interview as part of the team’s “Meet The Rookies” series. “At the end of the day, that’s just more fuel to my fire.”

Johnson, whom you might remember was the second Bears second-round draft pick, went on to say he would still find something to stoke his competitive fire even if he was the first cornerback off the board. That’s always good to hear. And it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a Chicago athlete take the smallest sleight and use it to inspire greatness. So maybe Johnson will have his own LaBradford Smith story down the road.
If he doesn’t, it’s cool. Because Johnson made it clear that he is looking at Jeff Okudah, C.J. Henderson, A.J. Terrell, Damon Arnette, Noah Igbinoghene, and Jeff Gladney going before him in the 2020 NFL Draft for inspiration.
