Even Though They Have QB Needs, the Saints Are Reportedly Inquiring About WRs

Yours truly is a fan of one-stop shopping.

And with the NFL’s trade deadline rapidly approaching at 3 p.m. CT, perhaps the New Orleans Saints should do some double-dipping:

ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin tweets the Saints have been making calls around the league in search of receiver help. With Michael Thomas still unavailable, and injuries limiting players elsewhere, it is unsurprising that New Orleans is checking in on pass-catchers. That Martin ties in the team’s QB quandary further piques my interest. After all, watching Jameis Winston go down with a season-ending injury on Sunday and seeing that Taysom Hill remains in concussion protocol makes me think that Andy Dalton or Nick Foles could make sense as a trade option.

Considering Bears GM Ryan Pace’s connections to the Saints, maybe it would be wise for both teams to talk shop about Allen Robinson II if a phone call is made. Perhaps there is interest in experienced veterans Marquise Goodwin or Damiere Byrd, who are more cost-efficient possibilities for a team that is up against the cap.

In any case, it would be malpractice if the Bears weren’t at least having these conversations. Not just with the Saints. But with one of the league’s other 31 teams. Or maybe other 30 teams. Let’s be honest with each other. I doubt the Bears and Packers are discussing an Allen Robinson swap at this stage of the game.
