The Chicago Bears are enjoying the last week of voluntary OTAs in style.
First, it was a lighter work week than usual with the team canceling the final day of practices. In its place, a day trip to United Center where the squad spent the day shooting buckets and pucks as part of a team-building exercise. One day later, the Bears were on the move again. This time, a Friday funday taking in the sights of Chicago — including the rookies’ first trip to Soldier Field.
This isn’t the type of football these guys will be playing at Soldier Field when the calendar turns to September.
And yet, I’m entertained watching these athletes play footy:
As an additional bonus, I’m happy to see Soldier Field in one piece after three days of Swifties (myself included) losing it at the home of the Bears. Considering how many of you were holding me accountable for keeping an eye on Taylor Swift and her minions with the hopes of making sure Soldier Field was still playable after she skipped town, I guess I can take full credit for that grass looking as green as it does.
I’m unsure how long the Bears will be at Soldier Field or play within city limits. But if (when) the Bears move out to the burbs, I hope they still bring the rookies in for a field trip into the city. It’s not as if Arlington Heights or Naperville has this type of scenery:
What a lucky bunch of ballplayers. My first trip to Soldier Field was colder, more windy, and far less memorable. And I bet, dear reader, your first Soldier Field trip likely felt similar to mine. But, hey, at least the good vibes are rolling for now. Sure, we could look back at these days and wonder if the time would’ve been better spent practicing, working out, or hitting the playbooks. However, we won’t. Because there is always time to catch up on serious football business. But when the time comes to live in the moment, you should do it. And that goes for football players and fans of football players alike.
