In other words, it won’t kick-in until next season, and holds a $859,167 AAV cap hit.
Phillips was picked in the fifth-round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Blackhawks from the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL. Phillips played in 131 games with the Wolves, scoring 40 points in two OHL seasons. He has played this season with the Rockford IceHogs as part of the AHL lifting the age-limit of CHL players for this season due to the pandemic.
The 6’3″, 195-pound defenseman made his professional debut on February 13th this season, scoring his first professional goal on the same night. Phillips has two goals and six points in 14 games with the IceHogs this season.
