Coby White Is Getting Love from Some Big NBA Names and Other Bulls Bullets

Social media can certainly be a toxic environment in the sports world (and all worlds, really). But I have to admit, I’m a sucker for athletes supporting their peers: a.k.a. game recognizing game.

And, as you’ll see a little further down this post, Coby White has gotten plenty of respect lately. You just love to see it.

  • BOW DOWN TO OUR KING!

  • Coby White has given us a reason to watch Bulls basketball over the last three games. He is now the first rookie every to drop 30+ points in three-straight games off the bench and only the third player ever to do so in NBA history! To be exact, he’s dropped 101 points in just four days. Wowzers. After his back-to-back showing over the weekend, it was hard to believe he could come out any better, but he set a new career-high last night with 35 points and provided a very encouraging one-two punch alongside Zach LaVine.
  • ICYMI: Make sure you watch the highlights!

  • Sure, the Bulls are 1-2 over these three games, but isn’t that kind of best-case-scenario right now? Again, I’m never one to blatantly root for a loss, but White is showing development while the Bulls also continue to secure themselves better lottery odds. In other words, these don’t really feel like empty losses. The more we can see White and LaVine work off each other, the better we’ll feel about him as a starting point guard heading into next season.
  • Wait … Zach and Coby did something cool MJ and Pip never could? What!?
  • A historic three-game stretch feels like reason enough to give White a shot at starting minutes alongside LaVine, but Jim Boylen won’t budge.
  • My brain hurts from talking about this at length yesterday, so check out my post about the great debate.
  • Considering the Bulls’ poor standing, I was immediately worried White’s impressive stretch might go undervalued. However, some big-time NBA names are making sure that doesn’t happen!

  • Hey, that guy is pretty good!

  • Chris Paul has been one of White’s biggest fans and mentors since he entered the NBA. Here’s what he had to say about the rookie after the game:
  • Paul might have his problem, but I love that he and White are working side-by-side during the offseason. White’s next step toward becoming this team’s starting point guard is to improve his facilitating, and I don’t know of many better players to teach him those skills.
  • LaVine has been a fan of White all season long, and he talked with The Athletic’s Darnell Mayberry after last night’s game about what it’s like for the two of them to share the court: “I don’t know how good we can be, but I know we both individually want to be great. We put the work in for it.” Keep playing them together, and let’s find out how good they can be!
  • With videos of LaVine mouthing off against his head coach becoming a regular occurrence, I’m not surprised to see folks try to continue that narrative last night. Although, as NBC Sports Chicago’s Kevin Anderson points out, LaVine wasn’t barking at Boylen in the latest viral clip. I’m not supporting Boylen here, but rather emphasizing that people should always make sure to get the story right.
  • Could Carter and Valentine be back for Saturday’s game?
  • Fun read!
