Bulls Assign Coby White to the Windy City Bulls (As We Eagerly Await His Return) (UPDATE: He’s Back Already)

Chicago Bulls

The Coby White return is on the horizon.

One day after the Chicago Bulls announced that White was cleared to practice for the first time since he suffered a torn labrum in June, the organization has assigned him to the G-League.

White will now join players like Marko Simonovic and Devon Dotson for some extra work as he prepares to reclaim a role in the Bulls rotation. The question, however, is how long White will stay by their side. While it’s common for young NBA players returning from injury to run through practice or scrimmage with the G-League, it is uncommon for them to see much live game action. In White’s specific case, the Windy City Bulls are not expected to play again until this Thursday in Cleveland. Head coach Billy Donovan also already told reporters that White is expected to travel with the team for their upcoming west coast road trip, which they would likely head out for on the same day.

Regardless, a G-League assignment is yet another sign that White’s return is around the corner.

UPDATE (3:17)

Above we pondered how long Coby White would stay with the Windy City Bulls, and we now have an answer …

Yeah, so like we commented above, teams frequently send injured young players down to the G-League for some extra practice work. White did that today, and we now wait and see if he does it again before the team leaves for their Western Conference road trip later this week.
