Green and Dosunmu Bring the Hustle, Two More Injuries, Doug Collins HOF, and Other Bulls Bullets

Rumor has it there were actually SIX Javontes out there last night.

  • It’s impossible not to root for Javonte Green. The 30-year-old already approaches every single game like he has something to prove, but last night it was on a different level. Despite earning a contract for the remainder of the season, Green continued to make the rest of the NBA look silly for allowing him to sit in the G-League for that long. The Knicks looked completely caught off guard by his consistent off-ball movement and leaping ability. Meanwhile, the Bulls looked more than comfortable with Green back on the floor. They all knew what he was capable of, and they used it to their advantage.
  •  “We all know what to expect from Woo,” DeRozan told Bulls dot com. Every time he goes out there, he plays like he’s 6-9 and he goes out there and does anything and whatever for the team. He also has that ‘dawg’ mentality in him to where once he steps on the court, there’s no easing into anything. He dunks like he’s 6-9, how fast he gets off the floor, how quick he is, how hard he dunks the ball. It’s incredible. The guy’s one of a kind. He makes it easy on all of us.

  • I’m sure it helped that Green knew he was coming back into a locker room who already trusted him. But DeRozan is also 100 percent right, there is just something about the way Green plays that makes life so much easier for everybody else. Especially against a team like the New York Knicks that can overpower you physically and loves to attack the glass. You need those hustle plays to beat this team, and that is precisely what Green does best.

  • GGs IN THE CHAT!
  • For what it’s worth, Green is now 1-2 from behind the arc in each of his four games with the Bulls. I’m not trying to say he’s some kind of reliable shooter, but I was surprised to see that he is now 56-151 during his Chicago Bulls career. I have to imagine that at least plays some small role in Billy Donovan’s confidence level in him.
  • Of course, the Bulls also don’t win that game without Ayo Dosunmu. He set the tone in the first quarter with 14 of his 24 points on 6-9 shooting. He was in full attack mode and did what he does best by taking numerous Knicks defenders off the dribble. What stood out most, however, was how he expressed zero hesitation to shoot it from deep. We’ve seen this growing all year long, and he now appears to have a really good understanding of how to set himself up from deep. To be clear, I know he only ended up going 3-7 on the night, but I liked practically all the looks he got. We even saw him force a defender in the air and hit a side-step corner 3! That’s new stuff from Ayo!

  • Per usual, last night’s win couldn’t come without some drama. Both Coby White and Alex Caruso were forced to leave the game with ankle injuries. Coby White ran off under his own power in the second quarter and didn’t return to the game. Caruso didn’t leave until the fourth quarter after his foot was stepped on. The good news from NBC Sports Chicago’s K.C. Johnson is that both players appeared to be ok in the locker room, but we still have no update yet on where their health stands.
  • The Bulls currently sit one game ahead of the Atlanta Hawks thanks to last night’s victory, so they have a little bit of wiggle room over the last five games. With that being the case, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the coaching staff proceed with extra caution. Also … what’s more important – keeping No. 9 or having Coby White and Alex Caruso as healthy as possible for the Play-In Tournament? I think we know the answer.
  • Former Chicago Bulls head coach and executive Doug Collins is on his way to the Hall of Fame!
  • I would like to have my mind blown.
