The Chicago Cubs Are the Extremely Early 2016 World Series Favorite … Kinda

chicago cubs hype trainThe Chicago Cubs Hype Train is back.

I remember at this time last year, the Chicago Cubs entered the 2014 offseason as 50 to 1 longshots to win the World Series in 2015. Of course, the Cubs did not win the 2015 World Series, but those odds sure didn’t feel reflective of their actual chances. And, indeed, those odds lasted about an hour before starting a rapid shrinking process that had the Cubs near the top of the heap by the time the 2015 season opened.

I’m not sure which direction they’ll go this offseason, but the odds are already starting in crazy town, at least according to Bovada, which announced today that the Cubs are 11 to 1 favorites to win it all next year. The Dodgers, Royals, Mets, Cardinals, Blue Jays, and Nationals all come in at 12 to 1, just behind the Cubs.

You are reminded that gambling odds are not necessarily a reflection of reality, as they are constantly shifted to try and balance out the bets – and, when it comes to the Cubs, bettors are not always rational.

All I can tell you is that you probably shouldn’t take this bet unless you’re doing it for fun. Any single team at 11 to 1 to win the World Series at this point in the year is nuts. Heck, it would arguably be nuts in July.

But, whatever. Yay Cubs as favorites!
