This is why we can’t have nice things.
For about … oh, say 3-4 hours I was under the impression that the Cubs were finally going to field a lineup and bullpen full of their star players, but then Craig Kimbrel hit the Injured List and now there’s this.
Check it out:
Javier Baez scratched from tonight's Cubs lineup with left thumb soreness after going through pregame routine.
Contreras moved up to 5th in lineup. Addison Russell playing SS and batting 7th.

Baez had been dealing with a sore left thumb after sliding into second base over the weekend, but after getting two days off on Monday and Tuesday (plus the off-day yesterday), the hope was that he’d return to the starting lineup tonight. Of course, he was in the starting lineup originally, but after going through his pregame routine, he/the Cubs decided he wasn’t well enough to play. Sigh.
Addison Russell is in there batting 7th and playing shortstop and Willson Contreras moves up.
