Cleveland Sends Pitcher Zach Plesac Home to Quarantine After He Went Out With Friends in Chicago

I don’t want to rip players too hard for just being humans, but given what has happened so far this season, I have trouble wrapping my head around guys who can’t just follow the rules for TWO MONTHS. Why would you put your teammates’ health, wellbeing, earnings, and careers at risk?

Good on Cleveland for taking quick action:

Apparently starter Zach Plesac went out with friends last night in Chicago, and that ticked off his teammates and the staff enough that the team quickly moved to isolate him. Plesac will reportedly be quarantined for 72 hours and tested daily.

This is what the protocols now require, and the Indians were completely in the right to make this move. Hopefully players continue to take note of this stuff and stop taking unnecessary risks.

Now there’s a question of whether Plesac risked exposing any of his teammates, who are now supposed to play the Cubs on Tuesday. There will be testing and results beforehand, and I suspect the risk of team-to-team transmission is really low anyway, but what if the Indians are worried about a team-wide outbreak if there’s a positive? It might take only one positive test for ANOTHER Cubs series to get postponed.
