One of the better regarded coaches in the game these days, Will Venable is a frequent member of the managerial interview circuit.
The Cubs third base coach hasn’t gotten one of those gigs yet, but today, he did get a promotion. But not with the Cubs:

Venable interviewed with the Red Sox for their managerial job this year, which ultimately went to Alex Cora (returning after his one-year suspension and firing). They must have really liked Venable, though, and made this move happen. At present, the Cubs’ bench coach is Andy Green, serving as David Ross’s number two.
Previously, Venable served as the Cubs’ first base coach, and also a special assistant in the front office. He’s very well-regarded around the game, and he’ll remain a hot target on the managerial circuit, I expect, especially after serving as a bench coach on the Red Sox.
All the best to Venable going forward. Now the Cubs will need at least two new coaches for the staff – a new third base/outfield coach to replace Venable, and a new assistant hitting coach to replace Terrmel Sledge (though that one might be an internal promotion).
