Okay. Wow. I got out all my thoughts and context of that INSANE final play of the game in a separate post. So please check that out if you’re looking for the highlight, the explanation, and the absurdity of how long that review took and how the umpire delivered the news. Truly wild stuff.
As for everything else, it almost seems silly to discuss now. That was the whole game. So I’m going to keep this brief.
Shota Imanaga was INCREDIBLE tonight, once again. Despite not having his best velocity and despite not being able to locate his fastball up the way he usually does, he held the Mets scoreless over 7.0 innings with just 3 hits, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. He is on another level. Better than anyone could have ever hoped he’d be.
The Cubs offense was horrendous tonight, once again. They managed just one run on five hits and three walks against 13 strikeouts. They’ve scored just 10 runs in their last five games. That’s gotta stop.
Yency Almonte had a huge relief appearance and continues to earn the trust of Craig Counsell (and us, frankly). He’s been good.
Hector Neris gets the save, but yeah … like I said earlier this week, he simply cannot be put in that spot again. He is not going to keep getting this lucky if he keeps giving up so many free bases (and not missing bats). It’s really quite bad.
The Cubs have now guaranteed themselves at least a four-game series split in New York, but they’ll have a chance to win the series in the finale tomorrow with Ben Brown going up against Adrian Houser.
