When I told Cubs fans to drop the banana earlier this offseason, I meant it. I really thought (and still think) it’s time for all of us to move on and look forward, and stop trying to recreate the magic that was 2016, but create NEW magic in the future …
… But I also didn’t know how tough it was going to be. From Theo Epstein to Len Kasper to Yu Darvish, Jon Lester, Victor Caratini, Pedro Strop, Kyle Schwarber, Albert Almora Jr. and many others, the Cubs have said farewell to SO MANY important figures from almost literally every access point into the team. And we’ve had to go through all of that during a pandemic, without going to Wrigley Field at all this year, and with no certainty when exactly we’ll ever be able to return.
The (always superb and poignant) Cubs production team is clearly aware of how much that all hurts, and they enlisted noted Cubs fan Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson from Parks ‘n Rec) to narrate this warmly familiar trip down memory lane with a subtly, but touching look ahead to the future.
This won’t replace all the important Cubbies we’ve lost this offseason, but it did make me feel good. I hope it does the same for you.
We can’t wait to safely welcome back all of Wrigley Field’s treasures, especially our fans. #CubTogether pic.twitter.com/GgAaclEfUX

Happy New Year, everyone. We’ll still be here.
