We can probably debate how much value there actually is in watching any further Wade Miley starts this season, seeing as he’s a 35-year-old free-agent-to-be (whose further unlikely to re-sign with the Cubs this winter), but he’s FINALLY making another start tonight.
Perhaps he can help demonstrate to the league what a swell, player-friendly landing spot Chicago can be. And maybe he can do us the honor of a short (but effective) outing, making way for a nice, long Hayden Wesneski piggyback debut in Chicago. That would be fun.
Miley’s last big league start was all the way back in New York on June 10. Before that he hadn’t started since May 22. Miley was good when he was on the mound this year – and probably could’ve been a bit of a difference maker, at least for a while, had he been healthy all season. But that’s way in the past.
Tonight, he’s going up against Jusitin Dunn, the Reds 26-year-old righty, who’s made just five MLB starts this season, without much success: 4.63 ERA (6.46 xERA), not many strikeouts, too many walks, lots of hard contact, plenty of elevation. He’s also struggled against lefties, so maybe place a bet on an Ian Happ homer tonight.
