The Chicago Cubs 2024 home opener is this afternoon at Wrigley Field, and the team dropped a little hype to welcome everyone back home.
It feels all the better after yesterday’s win, and I’m sure the Cubs are going to be excited to play in front of the home crowd.
… well, depending on the weather, that is.
In an annual tradition, the forecast for the Wrigley Field opener is crap.
As of this moment – which, hey, things can always change – the forecast has the rains likely arriving in Wrigleyville shortly after the game is scheduled to begin, and then potentially continuing on for several hours. It’ll also feel like 30 to 35 degrees out there, so that’s not great either.
The problem, of course, is that the next two days aren’t necessarily projected to be a ton better, so it’s not as if the Cubs can easily punt on only today and reschedule. The teams do share an off-day on Thursday, for what that’s worth.
If you’re optimistic, you say that either the forecast will shift again in the next few hours, or the 30ish% chance of no rain is the side that hits. I will strongly be rooting for it, and in either case, it currently looks like the game will get started without issue.
Here’s hoping Wrigley still looks this beautiful in just a few hours:
