Cubs Injury Updates: Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, Justin Steele (UPDATE)

If you’re looking for some good news following a pretty frustrating weekend of baseball at Wrigley Field, I do have some for you. Just before the game, a trio of updates were reported for the Cubs injured players, and it was all pretty good.

Justin Steele (hamstring), who’s been out since opening day, threw a live bullpen session at Wrigley Field off the mound. His next step is to throw 3.0 innings in an extended spring training game in Arizona on Friday.

So we’re still a little over a week away from a rehab assignment. Still, good news.

According to multiple reports, Seiya Suzuki (oblique) began “introducing very light baseball activity today,” which is as vague as it gets. But, hey, it’s certainly a start. There was some hope that Suzuki’s oblique injury wasn’t particularly severe, so this is a good sign that everyone still seems to think that’s the case.

And lastly, Ian Happ (hamstring) said he is “feeling good” and was available off the bench today. He also “believes he’ll be good for Tuesday’s game,” after tomorrow’s scheduled day off.

So, yeah, these are all modest updates (well, Steele’s is actually pretty significant, I guess), but they’re all good news. Given the way the offense looks at less-than-full strength and the way Kyle Hendricks has been pitching, these guys can’t get back soon enough.
