The Miami Dolphins were hoping to have starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa back for their Wild Card matchup against the Bills on Sunday, but that’s not happening.
Marcel Louis-Jacques, who covers the Dolphins for ESPN, reported this morning that Tua has not been cleared to resume football activities and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Bills, per head coach Mike McDaniel.
ESPN’s Field Yates confirmed that McDaniel will start Skyler Thompson on Sunday, putting the Miami Dolphins at an even bigger disadvantage than they already were coming into this game.
Tagovailoa has missed the last two games for Miami after being placed in concussion protocol following the Dolphins’ Week 16 loss to the Packers at home on Christmas Day. Tua’s season has been riddled with concussions and has cost him four games and now the postseason on two separate head injuries.
McDaniel said on Monday that he was creating game plans for all three Miami quarterbacks with so much uncertainty surrounding the injured Tua Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater.
Skyler Thompson has played in seven games this season and played most of the entire game in three weeks, including the last two games for the Dolphins. Thompson completed 20-of-31 passes for 152 yards and no touchdowns or interceptions in Miami’s Week 18 win over the Jets that punched Miami’s ticket to the postseason.
