Panthers Continue to Add, Sign WR DJ Chark to One-Year Deal
The Carolina Panthers continue to add, this time signing wide receiver DJ Chark on a one-year deal this afternoon. Ian Rapoport broke the news on the Chark deal with Carolina:
Chark spent the 2022 season with the Detroit Lions after spending his first four seasons in Jacksonville. Chark caught 30 passes for 502 yards (16.7 per reception) and three touchdowns in 11 games. He was hampered by injuries again last season, an unfortunate theme for him in his first five seasons in the NFL.
The Panthers got a good look at Chark in December when he had four catches for 108 yards for the Lions against Carolina. He also had eight catches for 164 yards and two touchdowns in their 34-27 Jaguars victory over the Panthers in 2019.
Now Chark will suit up for the Panthers in 2023. The 26-year-old has only played in 54 games in the last five seasons due to injury but has been effective when on the field. Chark posted an excellent 73-catch, 1,008-yard season with eight touchdowns for the Jaguars in 2019.
The financials on the Chark deal were not available at the time of publishing.
Carolina has now added Miles Sanders to their backfield and Adam Thielen and Hayden Hurst to the receiving core. As of now, Andy Dalton is the starting quarterback, but there will be a new face in the QB room after next month’s NFL Draft.
