The Vikings had a great 2022 regular season at 13-4 overall but got bounced in the Wild Card round by the New York Giants 31-24. The team now turns its focus to the 2023Â NFL Draft and offseason as it hopes to stay on top of the NFC North division.

The Vikings have five picks in the 2023 NFL Draft and only one pick on the first day of the draft. The team doesn’t have a second or seventh-round pick this year.

– 1st Round: 23rd overall
– 3rd Round: 87th overall
– 4th Round: 119th overall (from Lions)
– 5th Round: 158th overall
– 6th Round: 211th overall (compensation pick)
The fourth-round pick comes from the Detroit Lions after a deal for tight end T.J. Hockenson. the team traded their original sixth-round pick in last year’s draft to the Houston Texans for Ross Blacklock. Their sixth-round selection this year is a compensatory pick. The team would have had just four picks without getting the comp pick.
The Vikings also used a fourth-round and fifth-round selection last season to trade up to draft cornerback Akayleb Evans in the 2022 NFL Draft. The goal was to add some defensive depth in the secondary to help out Patrick Peterson.
Minnesota Vikings 2023 Mock Draft and Team Needs
General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is looking to score big in the draft, and he’ll need solid picks to do just that. The Vikings currently look like they need to build some depth at wide receiver, interior defensive line, and linebacker if they want to stay on top of the division.
Clemson defensive lineman Bryan Bresee could be an option for the team at No. 23 overall. He dealt with injuries and personal issues in 2022, but he’s an extremely talented player. He should be a solid player and pass rusher as he makes the jump to pro football. Yahoo has the Vikings going with defensive lineman Mazi Smith in the first round in its mock draft.
A few mock drafts have the Vikings considering a quarterback of the future. Kirk Cousins is 46-33-1 in his career with the team and the Vikings made the playoffs just twice in his five seasons with one playoff win. There is also uncertainty on the offensive line at the guard position.
The Vikings running backs and receiving group had a strong season in 2022 with Justin Jefferson almost breaking the NFL record for receiving yards. He finished sixth all-time for a single season at 1,809 yards. Receiver Adam Thielen left in free agency for the Carolina Panthers on a three-year deal.
