Allen Robinson’s time in Los Angeles is over. Multiple reports this afternoon have the Rams sending the veteran wide receiver to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Adam Schefter noted that the deal is still pending a physical but is expected to be done. Schefter also reported that Robinson “is due $15 million guaranteed this season, of which the Rams already have paid $5 million. It is expected that the Steelers will pay a portion of the remaining $10 million to Robinson, per sources.”
Robinson is in the middle of a three-year, $46.5 million contract (signed last spring) that comes with $15.2 million guaranteed in 2023. The Rams have already paid $5.25 million of his 2023 salary in a roster bonus that was due in March.
Los Angeles is set to incur $11.2 million in dead cap money if they trade Robinson before June 1. The Rams have worked “sliding scale” trades in previous moves, in which the amount of salary the team absorbs is determined by the number/level of picks. This would be the case with Robinson.
The former Jaguars and Bears receiver caught 33 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games with the Rams. Robinson is recovering from surgery to repair a fractured foot right now.
Robinson received permission from the Rams to seek a trade last month. The Rams have made moves to cut cap all offseason. Now Allen Robinson becomes the latest heavy cap hit to depart Los Angeles.
There were no details on the return available at the time of publishing. However, I wouldn’t expect it to be much at all.
UPDATE: The return is in, and it’s as underwhelming as expected …
