As if last night’s flurry of trades in the first round weren’t enough, the second night of the NFL Draft could open with a trade. The Pittsburgh Steelers have the 32nd overall selection. According to Adam Schefter, they also have multiple offers for the first pick of the second round.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said earlier that the Titans, Falcons, Bears, Rams, and multiple other teams were interested in trading back into the end of the first round last night.
I would imagine that some of those teams are considering snagging the first pick of round two in a trade with the Steelers.
There are a few players on the board that were expected to be first-round picks last night. Kentucky QB Will Levis, Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer, and CB Joey Porter Jr. are just a few.
We heard on Thursday that the Titans and other teams were interested in moving up to third in a trade with the Cardinals. The Texans ended up shocking everyone by trading into that spot to take Will Anderson Jr. after taking C.J. Stroud at No. 2. So, it’s the old adage with this report, where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire.
However, if the Steelers stay out at No. 32, Joey Porter Jr. is there for the taking. We know that the Steelers need a cornerback like Porter. Many, including myself, had Porter going to the Steelers at No. 17 last night. Instead, Pittsburgh moved up to take tackle, Broderick Jones.
The Steelers could also take Alabama’s do-it-all defensive back Brian Branch if they’re not interested in taking Porter.
Either way, it appears that we’re in for an interesting start to the encore of last night’s wild round one.
