The Seattle Seahawks overachieved in 2023 by all accounts and missed out on a playoff spot by just one game. They’ve since said farewell to legendary coach Pete Carroll and welcomed in a new regime led by Mike MacDonald. Seattle has added a few defensive players during free agency but still has plenty more to address during this year’s NFL Draft. Let’s take a look at the Seattle Seahawks draft needs.
Seattle Seahawks Positions to Address in the NFL Draft
The NFL Draft is a month away and the Seattle Seahawks have some work to do if they’re going to compete in the NFC West. The Seahawks are more than likely looking to bolster their offensive line, defensive front, safeties, and more. Check out the Seattle Seahawks’ top five positions that need to be addressed during the 2024 NFL Draft.
Defensive line
The Seahawks brought back quite possibly their biggest free agent Leonard Williams and added Johnathan Hankins to help bolster their defensive front. Both Williams and Hankins are in the latter stages of their careers, however. While they, along with the rest of the front 7, contributed to a good pass defense, Seattle struggled to stop the run. They allowed the 2nd most rushing yards and 5th highest yards per attempt last season. This has to be a focus, especially when playing in a division with the Rams and 49ers rushing attacks.Â
Offensive Line
Much in the same breath as above, Seattle’s focus on offense has to be improving the ground game. Their offensive firepower via the air is dangerous, but they posed no threat on the ground last season. Part of that was due to gameplan, and part due to opponents, but the Seahawks finished bottom 3 in attempts and total yards in 2023.
They brought back tackle George Fant and signed center Nick Harris in free agency. They lost guard Damien Lewis, though. Seattle has some young offensive line talent already on the roster, but we all know how important depth here is. This should be one of their main priorities in the draft.

Safety
Despite finishing outside the top 20 in passing yards allowed. The Seahawks were one of the hardest teams to throw touchdowns against, and that was with two aging safeties in Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams. They’ve since cut ties with those two but added Rayshawn Jenkins from Jacksonville and K’Von Wallace from Philadelphia in free agency to help replace them. 17-game starter, and Pro Bowl selection Julian Love is still in town, but Seattle would be wise to add depth at the position.
Running Back
Seattle has two very capable running backs on the roster in Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. They combined to rush for over 1300 yards and score 10 total touchdowns. But neither stayed healthy the entire season, and both have dealt with numerous injuries already in their young careers. Much like the safety position, adding another back in the draft would give them added security, if, and probably when one or both of their starters get injured.
Wide Receiver
Receiver isn’t a position of great need for the Seahawks with D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba already on the roster. However, Lockett is 31 and no longer the same threat he once was. Outside of those three, their depth at the receiver position is weak. Drafting a WR mid-draft to help with kick/punt returns while serving as the 4th wideout on the depth chart makes sense.Â
Seattle Seahawks Free Agency Additions
The Seattle Seahawks added multiple pieces on defense during free agency already. They also brought in Sam Howell to backup Geno Smith in a trade with the Washington Commanders. Here are a couple of their biggest additions:
