2024 NHL Draft: Which first-round picks have already been traded?

The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is approaching. The deadline arrives on Friday, March 8, 2023 at 2 PM CT. Some of the trades that will be made between now and the deadline will involve draft picks in the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft — including some first-round picks.

Looking ahead to the 2024 NHL Draft, there are already a number of teams that have acquired additional draft capital via trade. Here is a list of 2024 NHL Draft first-round picks that have been involved in trades already.

Pittsburgh to San Jose

  • The Sharks acquired the Penguins’ first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (top-ten protected) in the trade that sent defenseman Erik Karlsson to Pittsburgh on Aug. 6, 2023.
  • Tampa Bay to Chicago

  • The Blackhawks acquired the Lightning’s first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (top-ten protected) in the trade that sent forward Brandon Hagel to Tampa on March 18, 2022.
  • Winnipeg to Montreal

  • The Canadiens acquired the Jets’ first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft in the trade that sent forward Sean Monahan to Winnipeg on Feb. 2, 2024.
  • Florida to Philadelphia

  • The Flyers acquired the Panthers’ first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft in the trade that sent forward Claude Giroux to Florida on March 19, 2022.
  • Vancouver to Calgary

  • The Flames acquired the Canucks’ first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft in the trade that sent forward Elias Lindholm to Vancouver on Jan. 31, 2024.
  • There is one trade that involved a pick that will not be settled until the end of the postseason when the official draft order is final.

    Detroit / Boston to Ottawa

  • The Red Wings acquired Boston’s first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft in the trade that sent forward Tyler Bertuzzi to Detroit on March 2, 2023.
  • As part of the trade that sent forward Alex DeBrincat from Detroit to Ottawa on July 9, 2023, the Senators will receive whichever 2024 first-round pick is less favorable between Detroit’s own selection or the one they acquired from Boston.
