Probably Fake “Carlos Pena” Twitter Account Says He’s Been Traded to the New York Yankees

A tweet a couple minutes ago from “CarlosPena22,” a brand new Twitter account (replete with misspellings and “lmao,” things not reminiscent of the Carlos Pena I’ve seen), says this:

“I want to thank the cubs organization for putting me in a place thats all about winning… Im on my way to New York to play for Yankees.”

Needless to say, I’m highly skeptical. I’m digging for confirmation, but I don’t think I’ll find any. This has hoax written all over it.

UPDATE: The Cubs’ Front Office Twitter account is looking into it, but, from browsing their tweets, it looks like they are as skeptical as I was. In some ways, these wild goose chases are fun; and in other ways, they make you wonder why some people are so lame. If you’re going to try and pull off a hoax, at least improve the execution such that it can’t be debunked merely by looking at it. Also, follow Bleacher Nation on Twitter, and you’ll get these kind of shenanigans first.

UPDATE II: I’m hearing from folks on Twitter (have I used the word “Twitter” enough?) that the Cubs are spreading word that the account is indeed a fake (and Carrie Muskat just said the same). I should be a detective. But only where the cases are really obvious.
