The Lonzo-Bulls Rumors Are Not Dying Down

Whispers surrounding the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball continue to buzz:

Steve Kyler of BasketballInsiders.com has been taking questions from inquiring minds on Twitter, and one of his answers caught our eyes: He guessed that Ball was going to end up playing on either his current team, the Lakers, or Bulls next season.

Mind you, this is only a GUESS on Kyler’s part – his apt use of all caps here ensures we, the public, get that that – But still … that seems to be an educated guess, doesn’t it? After all, it’s not like it’s the first time these rumors have popped up.

And it’s not like the logic doesn’t add up, either: the Lakers have seemingly had plans to plop their young point guard on the trading block this offseason, as they look to add impact talent around LeBron James, for a while now. The Bulls, meanwhile, are a team in search of a young point guard to fill an obvious need and lead their team into a new era of baseketball. With that in mind, it’s easy to connect these two iconic NBA franchises as a potential trade fit.

As was discussed yesterday in conjunction with the Anthony Davis trade rumors, the Bulls could be used as a facilitator in a potential move that lands Davis in Los Angeles – which seems to be his preferred destination – and Ball in Chicago. However, using the Bulls as a vessel to get this hypothetical deal done could wind up cost the Bulls their No. 7 pick (sending it to New Orleans in the process). Which is obviously less than ideal. With all of that said, there would be a ton of moving parts for this to go down, so good luck piecing them together right now, this second. And yet … let’s be sure to keep these rumors on our radar as we approach draft day and NBA free agency.

Reminder: Ball-Bulls rumors have come up here and there so far this offseason. Eli weighed the pros and cons that come with trading for Ball, and Michael tackled the concept of the Bulls being in on the Lakers’ lead guard in Bullets last week. So as long as the Lakers keep him on the block and Bulls still have a need, the whispers don’t figure to go away any time soon.
