Welp, Craig Kimbrel is broken again. The Cubs took a late lead only to see Kimbrel blow it with an extraordinary lack of control. It hurt.
There were some silly extracurriculars in this one, even though I’m not so sure the Reds were throwing at the Cubs, and I’m quite sure the Cubs weren’t throwing at the Reds. That distracted a good bit from what was actually at one point a good Cubs comeback, as Alec Mills did not have it tonight, yielding four runs on three homers in his three innings of work.
Unfortunately, even as the Cubs came back and carried a one-run lead into the 9th (shoulda been more if Albert Almora could put the ball in play in either of his final two at bats), Craig Kimbrel had no idea where his pitches were going, which not only yielded three walks, and three wild pitches, but also the dong punch finale (which maybe probably shoulda been blocked by Willson Contreras, but whatever).
