Three quarters of a century! That’s how long the PGA has been coming to Fort Worth and like years past, we’re in for one hell of a tournament. Plenty of the worlds best golfers are here looking to etch their name into history. Let’s get get prepped for the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Tournament Format
Like every PGA Championship held since 1958, this year’s tournament will be a stroke play event. Simply put, each golfer is trying to make the 70-player cut after Friday. Then outscore the rest of the field in hopes of raising the Wanamaker Trohphy on Sunday.
From it’s first ever event in 1916 until 1957 the PGA Championship was a match-play tournament. Although it’s unlikely to happen, some have lobbied for the tournament to return that scoring format.

Where/When does the 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge tee off?
The Charles Schwab Challenge has been held in Fort Worth, Texas at the Colonial Country Club since it’s inaugural event in 1946. And it has almost always been held in the month of May.
The 2023 tournament tees off on Thursday, May 25th and will conclude on Sunday, May 28th.
2023 Charles Schwab Challenge Field
The field strength for the Charles Schwab Challenge hasn’t been too affected even coming off a major tournament. In fact, almost half of the OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings) top 20 players will be in attendance. This includes current no.1 player Scottie Scheffler, hometown boy Jordan Spieth (11), and last year’s winner Sam Burns (14).
Spieth and Burns are two of the nine former Charles Schwab Challenge winners competing this week. And the only two who are currently ranked inside the top 25. You can check out the whole field by clicking HERE.
2023 Charles Schwab Challenge odds
It will come as no surprise that Scottie Scheffler is a tournament once again. He’s finished top 5 at his last two events and hasn’t finished worse than 12th since last October. Local golfer Jordan Spieth comes in with odds almost three times longer than Scheffler and defending champ Sam Burns is greater than 20-1 to win again.
