David Rollins, We Hardly Knew You: Claimed from Cubs By Rangers

chicago cubs logo featureLast Friday, on the day to add prospects to the 40-man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft, the Cubs also claimed lefty David Rollins from the Mariners, who presumably had decided they needed the space on their own 40-man roster for that very reason.

After a light take on Rollins, I wrote this:

“We’ll dig more into Rollins in the coming weeks, as the 40-man roster undergoes some changes. As is always possible this time of year, the Cubs could try to get Rollins through waivers, themselves, and then try to keep him in the minor league system (but not taking up a 40-man roster spot).”

The reason I wrote that is because of precisely what just happened: the Cubs did indeed try to get Rollins through waivers, themselves, and he was claimed by the Rangers. The Rangers, in turn, will probably try this dance, too. So it goes.

This has been a Cubs transaction. Enjoy your afternoon. [adinserter block=”1″]
