2024 Kansas City Chiefs Big Board: Potential First-Round Fits Including Receiver and Tackle

What does one back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs team do the next year in the NFL Draft? It’s highly speculated that they will fill their pass-catching holes with an elite wide receiver, or possibly bolster the offensive line for Patrick Mahomes. They also have a need at defensive end, which is less pressing but you can never have enough pass rushers in the NFL. Let’s take a look at the best options for the Chiefs for the first round in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Kansas City Chiefs Draft Needs

The Kansas City Chiefs have a few key areas they need to address during the upcoming NFL Draft to keep that Championship momentum going. Here’s a breakdown of their most obvious needs heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.

Wide Receiver: They need to provide more support for star quarterback Patrick Mahomes who is in his prime, plus Travis Kelce will turn 35 years old during this season. The Chiefs acquired Marquise Brown during free agency which is a great start, but adding a solid young pass catcher should be a priority for this already strong Chiefs squad.

Tackle: The Kansas City Chiefs currently don’t have a clear starter at left tackle. Sophomore Wanya Morris may need more development before his number is called and there’s the possibility of re-signing Donovan Smith to another one-year contract. Protecting Mahomes’ blind side is of huge importance so if they see a tackle they like in the first few rounds, that may be the direction they go.

Defensive End: Adding to the defensive line is less pressing heading into this draft but you can never have enough pass rushers in the NFL. With Charles Omenhihu recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee, the Kansas City Chiefs could look to add here if someone they like is available at their pick.

Adonai Mitchell (WR), University of Texas

Mitchell is coming off a very impressive final campaign with the Longhorns and his combination of size and athletic ability is tough to beat. The raw tools are there and Patrick Mahomes is the perfect quarterback to get the maximum results early from Mitchell.

Ladd McConkey (WR), University of Georgia

McConkey is one of the most polished and NFL-ready wide receiver prospects in this draft class. His route running is super smooth and he can work anywhere on the field. He’d be a nice boost in the WR room for Patrick Mahomes.

Xavier Worthy (WR), University of Texas

It’s no secret the Kansas City Chiefs need speed in their receiving corps, and Worthy certainly fits the bill. The former Longhorn led all prospects at the 2024 NFL Combine with the fastest 40-yard dash time (4.21) setting a new record in the process.

Jordan Morgan (OT), University of Arizona

Morgan isn’t very lengthy but he is fast and explosive. The First-Team All-Pac-12 in 2023 was a three-year starter for Arizona and could be playing from Day 1 for the Chiefs if called upon.

Kingsley Suamataia (OT), Brigham Young University

Suamataia has been moving up draft boards into the first round in recent mocks and has been linked to the Chiefs after a solid workout and visit. Andy Reid has that BYU connection so this pick makes sense.
