Roger Goodell Signs Contract Extension, Remains NFL Commissioner

Roger Goodell isn’t going anywhere: the NFL Commissioner has reportedly signed a contract extension, according to Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal.

Beaton writes a letter from the NFL’s competition committee (which was responsible for negotiating the deal) to NFL owners saying a “binding contract extension has been signed by the Commissioner and by Arthur Blank, on behalf of the League entities.”

The execution of the contract comes on the heels of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ very public feud with Goodell and threats to keep him from signing an extension. In a recent article posted in ESPN the Magazine, authors Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham paint a picture of an unhappy Goodell – which stemmed from the six-game suspension handed down to running back Ezekiel Elliott.

“I’m gonna come after you with everything I have,” Jones said. “If you think Bob Kraft came after you hard, Bob Kraft is a p—y compared what I’m going to do.”

Between the Elliott suspension and Jones’ criticism of Goodell’s leadership and handling of National Anthem protests, this beef has been on another level. Jones has backed off his threat to sue the league over Goodell’s contract, but it’s unlikely this showdown will end any time soon.

But as for this round, chalk it up as just the latest loss for the Cowboys.
