The Jets are Banged Up, But the Bears Shouldn’t Take Their Opponents Lightly

The New York Jets’ injury report could make one heck of a competitive lineup:

“Oh, boy” indeed.

ESPN’s New York Jets reporter Rich Cimini reports wide receiver Robby Anderson, cornerback Trumaine Johnson, and center Spencer Long are listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. Those are important pieces for the Jets, whose decimated receiving corps and diminished secondary could play a big role in who wins Sunday’s game.

Anderson was the Jets’ leading receiver last year with 941 yards and seven touchdowns, but has been hobbled by an ankle injury. Johnson was a big-ticket free agent addition and is the team’s top cornerback. If neither plays, the Bears must take advantage of having an advantage in depth and talent in those particular matchups.

And to think, New York was already going to be without secondary receiving target Quincy Enunwa as well as lead back Bilal Powell, who was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week. But at least Isaiah Crowell presents a much better fall-back plan than anything the receivers on the bottom of the Jets depth chart could provide.

Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy has emphasized not making the same mistake twice all year long. So it would behoove the Bears to not let history repeat itself against the Jets. A short-handed Jets team could still be dangerous. And with the memories in Miami still fresh, Chicago shouldn’t take this team lightly – even if it’s without some key components.
