Love for Trubisky, Football is Coming, Daniels at Center, and Other Bullets

I like to treat myself to a different kind of breakfast every once in a while. Today, that breakfast was baklava (a flaky Greek pastry which is a delight to eat) and black coffee. There is something about the combination of sweet and bitter that satisfies the taste buds.

  • They’re baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack:
  • Mitch! Monty! Cordarrelle! Tarik! Riley! Akiem! Turbo! Hey, there goes tight end/linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski finding paydirt! All of your faves! In one place! So many exclamation points! Football is back! What a beautiful thing to see in May! AHHHHH!
  • Some love for QB1:
  • I have so much genuine optimism for Mitch Trubisky’s second year in Matt Nagy’s offense. We saw the kind of leaps he made simply by moving from an ancient offense to a modern one. But there is still so much to unlock. Being in the same system for consecutive years should provide ample opportunities for Trubisky to reach another level with his play. And while I don’t want to put the cart before the horse, it’s hard not to be excited.
  • Trubisky has #elite recruiting skills:
  • Ha Ha Clinton-Dix opened up about Trubisky and the recruiting process earlier, which is something that impressed us. It’s amazing to think about how much a little respect for a fellow competitor can go a long way.
  • It looks like QB1 is about to have a new starting center. Here are some words that carry weight from the Bears’ top dog:
  • A good offensive line could be better next year if James Daniels and Cody Whitehair can swap positions and not miss a beat. Because even though that unit performed well last year, the idea that it can be better is so enticing. Nothing like a tip-top offensive line to protect the team’s top offensive asset and clear space for the running game. And even though Nagy leaves the door open to go back to status quo, it feels like the team is OK with this move going forward.
  • Swapping Daniels and Whitehair wasn’t the only move that opened eyes at OTAs. The Bears are also moving Bradley Sowell from tackle to tight end, which also probably allows Rashaad Coward to slide into a role as swing tackle. And to think, it was around this time last year when Coward was getting set to move from nose tackle to the offensive line. Time flies!
  • It’s not going to be the sexiest competition, but the battle for reserve offensive line spots is going to be one of the most hotly contested when camp opens up in Bourbonnais.
  • We’ll get to the Bears rolling out the rest of their top-100 players after Bullets, but I had to share Eddie Jackson weighing in on already being one of the best to ever wear a Bears uniform:
  • Elsewhere on the defense, Cam Ellis (NBC Sports Chicago) writes about how re-worked fundamentals could ultimately unlock Leonard Floyd’s potential in Year 4 of his rookie deal. Floyd really started to play like a first-round talent in the second half of last season. So whatever he was doing then, he should probably keep on doing moving forward. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! But also, don’t break anything. Injuries are the last thing Floyd (or anyone wearing navy and orange) needs this year.
  • Save for the summer-ish temperatures, I’m feeling football vibes like Akiem Hicks:
  • I’m open to new ideas, concepts, formations, and plays:
  • Ready to high-step into the weekend like …
